You know I love this post, although I take some issue with Goldstone’s book because it’s based on Marguerite de Valois’s memoir. And, as you know, Marguerite had an AGENDA….
This book was my entry into both of their stories, after having watched Reign and the movie Queen Margot and having my interest piqued! I’d only ever read about the Tudors before, so French royals were all new to me. It was a great intro.
On another note, have you written about Veronica Franco? Might be another cool one… “Dangerous Beauty” is also a fave film. I had trouble getting through the book on which it’s based though.
Thank you for this! She’s usually depicted as “evil” instead of brilliant, as well as flawed. Imagine teaming with your beloved husband’s mistress to get pregnant & even observing them getting it on to learn “tricks”! Oh & “Queen Margot” is a favorite film of mine so have done some research on her. Looking forward to that post!
Powerful story showing her intelligence, thinking, and planning.
This one was fantastic. I’ve been meaning to read more about her and it’s a great place to begin! Thank you for sharing!
Brilliant, love “the serpent queen” series and its depiction of all of this. Can’t wait to hear about her daughter

Even so - love this!
Fair! I wrote this initially several years ago; if I were to rewrite from scratch I’d have used some other sources as well.
Still, I’m glad she got both Catherine and Marguerite noticed again.

I love the movie Queen Margot SO MUCH!! And the real life Margot was such a boss, too.
